After dropping out of Stanford, Liemandt founded enterprise software company Trilogy Software in 1989 and later established ESW Capital, an investment firm that acquired over a hundred software companies. Today, he serves as principal and a major funder of Alpha School, an Austin-based private K–12 micro-school network centered on an AI-driven, mastery-based "2 Hour Learning" model.
