Burgum led Great Plains Software through an IPO and its 2001 sale to Microsoft for $1.1 billion, later co-founding Arthur Ventures and Kilbourne Group. He served as the 33rd Governor of North Dakota from 2016 to 2024 before becoming U.S. Secretary of the Interior.
