The Exchanges

Every argument clarity score on this site is built from rows on this page. Each question and answer was assessed with names hidden, the host's own answers included, on four things from 1 to 5: directness (does it answer the question asked), coherence (do the ideas follow), precision (concrete details and clear references), compression (says a lot per word). The weighted mix (30/30/25/15) is the exchange score. A person's published score averages their exchange scores on raw tape only, at least 8 of them, shrunk toward the cohort mean. Full method →

Danny Golan no published score: no usable exchanges on raw tape, and a fair score needs 8+ · coarse estimate ≈4.5/5 from 4 produced feed exchanges record → ← everyone

Every exchange below was scored with names hidden, four dimensions each from 1 to 5. An exchange's score is 0.30·directness + 0.30·coherence + 0.25·precision + 0.15·compression. The published score averages the raw tape exchange scores and shrinks small samples toward the cohort mean, so five great answers can't beat twenty good ones. Produced feed rows count only toward coarse estimates, never toward a full score.

Q And this is not a cheap business to build. How much capital have you raised?

A Yes. So, uh, so we raised today, two hundred and eighteen million dollars. Including, uh, latest round of, uh, uh, seventy-five million dollar, um, uh, significantly oversubscribed round that we, uh, we've announced in January, uh, and obviously completed it, um, throughout, uh, 2016. And the interesting point is that, uh, although the, the markets were tough in 2016, um, uh, the worst, um, year since 2002, uh, in terms of IPOs, Um, and also uh, private placement. And I think that the fact Uh, that, that we are dealing in, in two of the hottest, uh, markets, uh, in, in IT. Uh, one is the cloud, and two is Flash. So Flash really created the, the opportunity to, to, to be in the middle of the biggest revolution, um, in, in, in IT, uh, and, and, uh, be as flexible as our customers, uh, uh, needs.

Q Is the SaaS aspect though, is that a much larger portion of your revenue, or is it the other one?

A So SaaS is by far the largest portion of our, so most of the SaaS companies, um, and I'll give you numbers, right? By, uh, uh, twenty-nineteen, the total cloud market, uh, will be one hundred and seventy-five billion. Out of that two thirds, ok, more than a hundred and twenty billion is SaaS companies. Um, uh, Amazon last year was only twelve billion dollars. So the portion of infrastructure as a service is only 50 some billion dollars, and Amazon, uh, holds, uh, um, twelve billion dollars out of it. So most of our market are SaaS companies that are building, uh, their own, uh, private cloud to serve Um, and to serve their customers as some sort of a service. It could be financial, it could be commerce, it could be medical, whatever it is, um, that they do, but they do run it on their own private cloud.

Q So you're helping bring efficiency to data sets and databases and data centers. Is that accurate?

A Yeah. So, so Cominari essentially developed the next generation, uh, data storage, uh, infrastructure. Uh, so we provide, uh, our customers that are really, uh, most of them, um, next generation, uh, business models. So most of our customers are, uh, software as a service, uh, companies, new, uh, application models, and they need a completely different, uh, infrastructure, uh, that can grow with them. So all of our customers grow dramatically, uh, fast and faster than, um, uh, legacy enterprises. Uh, they, uh, they generate dramatically more data, uh, And, and they need, um, the storage infrastructure to grow with them to scale and, and to do all of that in a far radically simpler way and more cost efficient way than in the past.

Q I always said, uh, would you like that question by the way? I hate it because it makes it seem like valuation is the only thing that matters, but I know my audience loves it.

A Uh, so I'll, I'll, I'll surprise you. Um, um, I, I think, and pardon my French bullshit. Uh, it's, it's, it's, so I'm, I'm with you. I think that the chase evaluation, um, uh, is the wrong chase. And, and the reason, the reason I say this is that if you're pushing your valuation for perfection, Um, I can tell you, um, a little secret. There is no perfection in IT. Uh, there is always, uh, um, uh, challenging, challenges in everything that we do, and you, you want to make sure, uh, that, um, uh, that you, uh, have a fair valuation, um, for your company without pushing, uh, Either, uh, the investors or, uh, your plans to unrealistic, um, uh, you know, areas. And, and I can tell you that the sentiment of investors, uh, if they appreciated, um, you know, growth, growth, growth, uh, in the past, today, uh, what is far more important, and we see it in the public, um, market. They're asking for real businesses, especially when, when it comes to, uh, to, um, uh, IT. Um, they want to see path, uh, for profitability, and they want to see healthy business, um, uh, and, and, and that's exactly where, uh, where we were, and I think that the fact that the, the round was significantly oversubscribed in a tough market really speaks volumes to our business model, The fact that we are, uh, very close, um, uh, to profitability.
