The Exchanges

Every argument clarity score on this site is built from rows on this page. Each question and answer was assessed with names hidden, the host's own answers included, on four things from 1 to 5: directness (does it answer the question asked), coherence (do the ideas follow), precision (concrete details and clear references), compression (says a lot per word). The weighted mix (30/30/25/15) is the exchange score. A person's published score averages their exchange scores on raw tape only, at least 8 of them, shrunk toward the cohort mean. Full method →

Ashish Patel no published score: no usable exchanges on raw tape, and a fair score needs 8+ record → ← everyone

Every exchange below was scored with names hidden, four dimensions each from 1 to 5. An exchange's score is 0.30·directness + 0.30·coherence + 0.25·precision + 0.15·compression. The published score averages the raw tape exchange scores and shrinks small samples toward the cohort mean, so five great answers can't beat twenty good ones. Produced feed rows count only toward coarse estimates, never toward a full score.

Q that can stand by themselves on Instagram, put the two minute one up on, on, on Facebook. And then like, how do you then tie in real time video things like Periscope and Snapchat? I mean, walk me, get me, get me in your brain as an editor when you're on site shooting new content, how do you Plan ahead so that it works well on any of these platforms.

A Um, so planning ahead is, is very difficult because we are, um, a news focused company. I mean, I, I'd say news with a little end because we do cover, you know, kind of trending internet con, uh, you know, things that are trending on the internet and whatnot. Um, but yeah, I mean, the trick is, is really about flexibility and really understanding the end points of consumption. So again, like I mentioned a little bit earlier, it's like we really, really think about the end user and why they're on those platforms. Um, the idea is that, you know, On our side that we staff people that are basically mirroring our target audience on the other side. So we have, you know, an 18 year old on Snapchat talking to an 18 year old on Snapchat.

Q on your homepage right now, you've got Facebook assets, Snapchat, Instagram, Vine, Twitter, Tumblr, and YouTube. Joe Biden comes to you, says, Ashish, I've got 10 minutes. You have me for 10 minutes in front of the green screen. What do you, what do you shoot in that 10 minutes so that you make sure you can create all of these assets, you know, after the fact when he's gone?

A Uh, sure. So, I mean, the, Um, you know, again, kind of referring to a question you asked before is how do you, you know, prepare for things that change in real time? How do you prepare to shoot for, for multiple platforms? Um, the thing is we just have to be ready with a very detailed shot list of head of time and Um, so this is kind of, uh, you know, one of the teams that my, uh, one of the things that my team helps with and tries to assist, uh, our editorial and studios teams with is, uh, data and insights on what's working on, uh, you know, what's increasing our consumption, our distribution, our shareability. Uh, so what we look for is, you know, we basically tested a lot of different interview formats, and we've nailed down a format that really resonates for us across different platforms.
