The Exchanges

Every argument clarity score on this site is built from rows on this page. Each question and answer was assessed with names hidden, the host's own answers included, on four things from 1 to 5: directness (does it answer the question asked), coherence (do the ideas follow), precision (concrete details and clear references), compression (says a lot per word). The weighted mix (30/30/25/15) is the exchange score. A person's published score averages their exchange scores on raw tape only, at least 8 of them, shrunk toward the cohort mean. Full method →

Every exchange below was scored with names hidden, four dimensions each from 1 to 5. An exchange's score is 0.30·directness + 0.30·coherence + 0.25·precision + 0.15·compression. The published score averages the raw tape exchange scores and shrinks small samples toward the cohort mean, so five great answers can't beat twenty good ones. Produced feed rows count only toward coarse estimates, never toward a full score.

Q a, Like a perfect startup that you would want to acquire or like what sort of criteria do you look at? Is it B to B only? Is it SAS only? Are you, is it tech tech sack? Um, can you just give details on like, if you get an email or you come across something I might require that has like this, this, this, you're like, I'm on it.

A Yeah, so I'd say our core focus, we only buy companies that are B to B SaaS. That's like the only thing we do, and I, I don't, I, I didn't have an exclusion list. We don't really sell, we don't really buy companies that sell to e-commerce owners. Um, nothing against that. It's just, we have carved what we are, what we know we're good at, and we, we stick to that. And then, then our sub requirement is really, so Ideally, in a perfect world, we're looking at one to two, one to five million dollar AR companies, um, that are in B to B SaaS. Everything else, we'll kind of look at the details unless they sell to e-commerce. Uh, so no Shopify and no WordPress for the most part. Um, and, and again, like those businesses have a slightly different Economics and business models and valuations. And we just, we don't really play with that space. The other exception is unless they're strategic to any of our four properties and we've bought, you know, we've bought probably one or two companies at each of those, uh, each of our, our properties. Um, we typically do that, you know, we're looking at one right now. I'll actually just sign an LOI. So, you know, we're, we're, we're doing those small tuck-in acquisitions all the time. Where like revenue is not the most important factor. It might be a strategic feature or functionality.

Q Quick question. What is, um, for people who don't know, what is, um, Norbert do?

A I should probably say that, yeah. Wall on Norbert is an email finding tool and email verification, so if you've got someone's name and company, you can find an email address, or if you've got email addresses, or let's say you have a marketing, an email marketing newsletter or anything like that, you can run your emails through there to make sure that they're still valid. You know, get rid of the, like, the people who signed up on your fake email or, like, the people who have switched jobs and the email no longer exists. Um, that can affect deliverability. Most commonly used by sales and recruiting firms, right? So you're headhunting. You've got the people you want to go after. You're just looking for the email address. Uh, that's kind of the most common use case. Um, but yeah, it was a fun, it was a fun, um, it was a fun project. In hindsight, right?
