The Exchanges

Every argument clarity score on this site is built from rows on this page. Each question and answer was assessed with names hidden, the host's own answers included, on four things from 1 to 5: directness (does it answer the question asked), coherence (do the ideas follow), precision (concrete details and clear references), compression (says a lot per word). The weighted mix (30/30/25/15) is the exchange score. A person's published score averages their exchange scores on raw tape only, at least 8 of them, shrunk toward the cohort mean. Full method →

Every exchange below was scored with names hidden, four dimensions each from 1 to 5. An exchange's score is 0.30·directness + 0.30·coherence + 0.25·precision + 0.15·compression. The published score averages the raw tape exchange scores and shrinks small samples toward the cohort mean, so five great answers can't beat twenty good ones. Produced feed rows count only toward coarse estimates, never toward a full score.

Q Okay. How did you, uh, I'm assuming you're a pickleball fan and you're thinking, Hey, cause there's golf. I mean, there's a whole Billion dollar industry around like golf lifestyle brands, right? All these, uh, companies that basically built these huge businesses, uh, with like golf shirts and stuff. So I'm thinking you're thinking, Hey, there's an opportunity here. How did that, how did it come about?

A Yeah. So, so briefly the origin story is that I did not set off to start this company, uh, in the way that it happened. I, uh, was sort of semi-retired. I am, I'm the old guy on the call today, and I have a couple of businesses here in, in the East Bay area that were kind of on autopilot, and I decided that I was getting a bit bored. I wanted to do something, uh, else, and I love pickleball. Picked it up during, uh, COVID. Got super inspired by the game, and my kids love it. My, my family plays often, and, uh, Also grew up in the fashion industry. That's another story, but I just had an interest in, uh, pickleball apparel. So I just started doing some research and found that this, this side, not the active wear side, the active wear side is very crowded, but the lifestyle side, the, the more off court side of the business is more open. And so that's the, that's the niche I've been going after. Uh, pickleball is an emerging sport. It's the fastest growing sport in the world right now, certainly in the country. And it's just taking off, but I think currently six, 16 to seventeen million players in the US. And so we want a piece of that pie, but it's a piece of the lifestyle, slice of the pie.
