Back invented Hashcash in 1997, a proof-of-work algorithm cited in Satoshi Nakamoto's Bitcoin white paper that formed the basis for Bitcoin's mining mechanism. In 2014, he co-founded Blockstream, a Bitcoin infrastructure company where he leads the development of sidechains, layer-2 scaling, and mining technology.
