Personal Cars Are Lime's Main Competitor, Not Rival Scooter Companies

Wayne Ting is the CEO of Lime. When asked which competing micromobility firm he respects most in RFP bids, he reframes single-occupancy personal cars as Lime's actual competition.
“The competitor that I spend most of my time thinking about is the car. The car is our biggest competitor. The majority of car trips are under five miles in cities, and the mode of passenger is one. The most common number of people in a car is one person. And so if we can convince all the people driving for three miles, four miles by themselves to give up that car and use a bike and scooter instead, that is the biggest opportunity for growth. And that is our biggest competitor.”
