Rusenko: Prioritize resolving major unknowns over standard cost-benefit task rankings

David Rusenko, co-founder of Weebly, discusses prioritization heuristics learned from Astro Teller of Google X during a Y Combinator Startup School lecture.
“When you're trying to make continuous improvement, that's actually a pretty good approach when you're trying to make discontinuous improvement optimized for learning. So basically ask yourself, what is my biggest unknown right now? What's the number one thing that I do not know you know, about my business that I need to learn? Optimize to learn that thing, because when you do that, it might not seem like the biggest thing. It might be a low effort task. It might seem like a low priority task, but when you optimize to learn the most, what do you do? You rewrite your whole priority list, because when you learn that thing that actually completely you throw out all your old priorities and have a new list of new ones.”
