Gustaf Alströmer (YC Partner, former Product Lead for Growth at Airbnb) discusses how basic login flow optimizations generated substantial business impact at Airbnb.
“In the early days of Airbnb, we used to automatically log you out after, like, I think two days. And we were like, why we do that? Well, security reasons. That makes sense. So then we would run an experiment. We set the kind of expiration date of that cookie to seven days and then 30 days and then unlimited. And I think we lifted the, that experience, the outcome of that experience over one percent increase in revenue for the whole company just by extending the session length and making it a little bit easier to log in.”
