The Exchanges

Every argument clarity score on this site is built from rows on this page. Each question and answer was assessed with names hidden, the host's own answers included, on four things from 1 to 5: directness (does it answer the question asked), coherence (do the ideas follow), precision (concrete details and clear references), compression (says a lot per word). The weighted mix (30/30/25/15) is the exchange score. A person's published score averages their exchange scores on raw tape only, at least 8 of them, shrunk toward the cohort mean. Full method →

Every exchange below was scored with names hidden, four dimensions each from 1 to 5. An exchange's score is 0.30·directness + 0.30·coherence + 0.25·precision + 0.15·compression. The published score averages the raw tape exchange scores and shrinks small samples toward the cohort mean, so five great answers can't beat twenty good ones. Produced feed rows count only toward coarse estimates, never toward a full score.

Q Okay. I love that. So top tribe, all you students out there wondering how you get the hell out of school and build your own business. Neha is going to give you the blueprint right here. All right. So you started the business. What gave you the idea?

A Well, this wasn't my first business. My first business that I wanted to do was teach other people how to do, uh, how to learn basketball. So I first got into internet marketing through Jeff Walker and product launch formula. He's like, that looks easy. Let me teach people about basketball. And I don't even know The fundamentals at that point, I just play cause I like Kobe Bryant. Um, and so I started down that path and I really didn't know what I was doing. I didn't believe in myself or, you know, even the information side and I just dabbled for a while. And so I tried a bunch of different things. I had a, a software business for real estate agents. I had a software business for, uh, the education space on teaching people, teaching high school students in the U S on how to do Um, math and, uh, pass there and perform better from a academic standpoint. And all of those didn't really do well because there was such a high capital required to make things happen. So what I ended up doing was I was just one of those guys where it's like, he's like a smart guy. Maybe he's doing some cool stuff and you know, he knows how to do some online marketing stuff. So someone asked me to put together a website and they asked me, do you know how to do a website? I'm like, absolutely. Deep down, I had no idea what I was doing. I don't even know what WordPress was. Um, and I said, yes, absolutely. I…

Q See, I don't know if I would do that. I would, I'd go to landing page. It says pay a hundred bucks to do this. Or I could just think, you know what? I, I'm more of a tinkerer. I'm like, or I could just spend a hundred bucks on the Facebook ads and figure it out. How do you get people over that psychological barrier?

A Because when you spend your first hundred dollars is probably the worst way that you could possibly spend it. So on, um, the way that I educate people is how most people spend their first hundred bucks and people, uh, reached out to me and said, actually, that's how I spent my first 800 dollars. So what I'm teaching them is not only Facebook advertising fundamentals, but it's also business fundamentals. So I'm talking about how to create a financial model and business objectives. So you know what your breakeven points are, how to define an offer, how to define a funnel, how to actually go about the Facebook ads part. And you know, I don't want to talk too much about the course, but the main goal is how do you get the foundations of marketing to translate into a channel, which is Facebook.

Q And what, how much total ad spend across all your clients are you managing monthly currently?

A We're doing anywhere from 30 to 50,000 a month. Um, it depends on the clients and where we're at right now is, um, we're actually in a transition phase. So along the same lines of the, uh, the web design business, I'm going through the same thing with this Facebook ads business. What I was initially doing then is I was against, even though I've sold something for 5000 dollars, I was still nervous and I was still scared because now it's a new service. I don't know what I'm doing, so I should start again. So I'm a slow learner, clearly. So I started at 250 dollars a month for Facebook advertising campaigns and That's just, I didn't know. I bought a course from Don Wilson. Um, he, he changed my life in terms of showing me what's possible with Facebook ads, started going down that path, and I got my first client for 250 dollars. Then, as I started getting results, I used the results from the previous client to get the next client. Does that make sense?

Q So how much cashflow in 2015 were you able to pull out personally from the business?

A I can't tell you that, but Um, in terms of our business, what we were able to do is keep increasing our prices. Um, in terms of our ad spend, we were managing very small amounts and the difference between what we were managing in the beginning of the year compared to what we were managing at the end of the year, um, was over tenfold. Um, because we're managing such small budgets, you know, when people are spending only a thousand dollars a month or 500 dollars a month, you can't really do much with that. And if you're not in the mentality to scale and really grow your business, then you're not going to spend a lot of money. So what we did was we just started finding people who are ready to scale, who are able to scale, and I've taken clients from 2000 a month to 20,000 plus per month. I've taken campaigns from 20 a day to 300 a day.
