Liu: Developers should build RAG from scratch before using framework abstractions

Jerry Liu, founder of LlamaIndex, gives his key takeaway for developers building LLM applications on the Latent Space podcast.
“Building, like, RAG from scratch. I mean, I think everybody should do it, I think. Like, I would check out the guide if you guys haven't already, and I think it's in our docs, but instead of just using you know, either the kind of, like the retriever query engine in Lomindex or, like, the conversational QA train in Lang train, it's I would take a look at how do you actually chunk parse data and do, like, top-hand batting retrieval, because I really think by doing that process, it helps you understand the decisions, the prompts, the language models to use.”
