Dropbox co-founder and CEO Drew Houston describes getting his first software job as a teenager after discovering bugs in an online game.
“When I was in eighth grade, I think, I'd signed up to test this online game, so I started poking around under the hood of the game, and I found all these security vulnerabilities. And I emailed the developer. It really is over ICQ. I'm like, hey, you know, you guys need to tighten up a few of these things. And they're like, okay, got it. You're right. Would you like to fix that for us? It was a startup. So they're like, well, we can't really pay you a salary, but we can give you stock options.”
