Puri: Enabling Stripe card updating added $1M annual profit to Birthday Alarm
Shaan Puri · Andrew Wilkinson's $20,000 to $260,000,000 story (#521) · Nov 22, 2023 · at 6:28
Shaan Puri discusses how minor operational tweaks generated far higher returns than major codebase or design rewrites for his business Birthday Alarm.
“We implemented Stripe instead of the old payments platform, because Stripe had a feature where if somebody's credit card expires and they get a new one, like, you know, their credit card company gives them a new one, It would mess up your subscription, and the stripe has a feature for 25 cents. They would just update it with the new card automatically without the user having to go type anything in. And that one, like, one feature is like a, you know, seven-figure feature that took, honestly, no work on it. We just check a box on, on stripe to be like, yeah, we want that. We'll pay the quarter for every time you do that. And You know, we made like an extra million dollars a year of profit just off of that one thing, basically.”
