Garneau: Canada's education system is playing catch-up to automation disruption

Marc Garneau, Canadian Minister of Transport, addresses the potential labor market disruption from autonomous vehicles and robotics replacing truck drivers, taxi drivers, and factory workers.
“There are professions that that could as a result of automated vehicles and intelligent transportation systems lose their jobs, and that's part of the evolution of a society. And the same applies in the manufacturing sector, where robotics is increasingly replacing the traditional manual labor that's involved there. So, there are going to be big changes, and I think, again, there, our education system is playing catch up as well. I don't think that, ah, I don't think that we're riding the wave at the moment. I think we're trying to play catch up there, because I think it's going to happen quickly.”
