Giannini: Global Economies Face Shallow Recession, Not 2008 Crisis
Mario Giannini · Mario Giannini & John Toomey – Private Equity Panel (Capital Allocators EP.309) · Apr 17, 2023 · at 7:59
Mario Giannini, CEO of Hamilton Lane, discusses his macroeconomic outlook and bull case for private equity amid prevailing market uncertainty.
“I think that inflation peaked a while back and is headed down. I don't know if it'll get down to two percent. I don't think it really matters. I think the most global economies outside of perhaps China are going to go into a recession and it will be a shallow one. And I think as people begin to recognize that, that the horrible outcomes are not going to happen, you're going to have Investors go, oh, it's not so bad. This could take a long time. It could take six months before that general realization happens. But that's my bullish case is that we are going to have a downturn. It will cause rates to stop rising. It will cause inflation to come down quite a bit. And we're not going to have an oh eight when I'm probably going to have an oh one oh two recession.”
