Charles Koch, Chairman and CEO of Koch Industries, explains to Joe Lonsdale how his Market-Based Management philosophy drives commercial success through mutual benefit and self-actualization.
“Our vision and for our business and our, started leading our five dimensions is to start with, ah, what capabilities we have that, ah, would, ah, enable us to do things, create products and services that other people would value. In other words, how do we create value for others? And then, where are the best opportunities for that, given our capabilities? And who would the best customers be? That is, it would create the most value for it, and then they, in a spirit of mutual benefit, would want to reward us for that, because that would be in their benefit to have us do more of that for them. And then, continually improve and add to those Capabilities, which then leads to additional opportunities, which calls for us then to build additional capabilities, so on, in never-ending cycles of improvement, growth, and mutual benefit.”
