Founders in their 40s must prove domain edge, unlike 20-somethings

Sanjay Swamy, Managing Partner at Prime Venture Partners, breaks down how he evaluates startup founders in their twenties versus their forties.
“So, when you're looking at entrepreneurs in their twenties, it's about, you don't ask the question, why will you succeed, and others won't, because it doesn't make any sense, and it's this, I have the raw energy and the power, right? And the desire. In your forties, that becomes a more relevant question. Why will you succeed, right? And they better have a strong answer to that, right, typically. Because that means they're building on something that they've done in the past. So that's the other thing. If you're in your twenties, you know, you could be working at Swiggy in food tech and say, I'm just going to do a fintech startup, right? There's no reason why your past, apart from your hustle and maybe tech skills has got any reason to do, you know, with what you're going to do. But when you're later in life, it typically, your past would have had a role to play.”
