Puri: Company values must explicitly state trade-offs to be meaningful
Shaan Puri · How to go from founder to CEO (without imploding) · Oct 28, 2025 · at 28:10
Shaan Puri discusses corporate culture and references Mark Zuckerberg's maxim 'move fast and break things' as an effective company value.
“You need to acknowledge the trade-off in the value itself. So, you know, Instead of saying, speed, because everybody says, yeah, of course, we all want to move fast. He would say, move fast and break things. That was the value. And because he said, move fast and break things, you would explicitly acknowledge the trade-off that, hey, when you move really fast, you're not gonna, it's not everything's gonna be done, you know, perfectly, neat, and orderly, like, things are gonna break, things are gonna happen. And by putting it in the value, it made it real.”
