The Exchanges

Every argument clarity score on this site is built from rows on this page. Each question and answer was assessed with names hidden, the host's own answers included, on four things from 1 to 5: directness (does it answer the question asked), coherence (do the ideas follow), precision (concrete details and clear references), compression (says a lot per word). The weighted mix (30/30/25/15) is the exchange score. A person's published score averages their exchange scores on raw tape only, at least 8 of them, shrunk toward the cohort mean. Full method →

Every exchange below was scored with names hidden, four dimensions each from 1 to 5. An exchange's score is 0.30·directness + 0.30·coherence + 0.25·precision + 0.15·compression. The published score averages the raw tape exchange scores and shrinks small samples toward the cohort mean, so five great answers can't beat twenty good ones. Produced feed rows count only toward coarse estimates, never toward a full score.

Q to trust him. I asked Daniel about his strategy when he set out to build Spotify and bring both musicians and fans to the table. What was your theory about that inclusion? Was that like, oh God, this is going to be really hard, or actually, in fact, no, no, we should be able to do this because this helps all of them get to the internet age as well.

A I was just really naive, to be honest, and, and like many other entrepreneurs, I didn't understand nearly enough what it would take to get this to work. So it really started with this, just, you know, being your own customer in the sense that I had this idea of the kind of product that I wanted to see in the world. And the way I articulated that to my team was what if we can build something that makes it feel like you had all the world's music on your hard drive. If we can create that feeling, we would have built something that's much better than piracy. So we're going to get People to consume it. Now the second part of that equation in order to not get shut down is obviously it has to work for artists.

AI assessment note: “I was just really naive, to be honest, and, and like many other entrepreneurs”
