The Exchanges

Every argument clarity score on this site is built from rows on this page. Each question and answer was assessed with names hidden, the host's own answers included, on four things from 1 to 5: directness (does it answer the question asked), coherence (do the ideas follow), precision (concrete details and clear references), compression (says a lot per word). The weighted mix (30/30/25/15) is the exchange score. A person's published score averages their exchange scores on raw tape only, at least 8 of them, shrunk toward the cohort mean. Full method →

Every exchange below was scored with names hidden, four dimensions each from 1 to 5. An exchange's score is 0.30·directness + 0.30·coherence + 0.25·precision + 0.15·compression. The published score averages the raw tape exchange scores and shrinks small samples toward the cohort mean, so five great answers can't beat twenty good ones. Produced feed rows count only toward coarse estimates, never toward a full score.

Q the specific topic of this panel is really the business of data. So, I'm actually interested, uh, you know, to hear your guys' perspective on how do you build, you know, the next billion dollar company based on, on data? And, you know, out of the two of you, who's gonna build the biggest business? Uh, and maybe you can start by reminding the audience about, you know, about Cloud.

A Sure. So, at Cloud, we're, we're the standard for measuring how influential people are online. We look at all the content you create across 13 different networks, and by topic, uh, rate people one to 100 to understand how influential they are, how, how when, you know, Sean or Roger, uh, tweets or puts a Facebook status update about the movie they just saw, how many of their friends are gonna go see it. Uh, we're, we're processing a huge amount of data, and data's core to our business, but in terms of the business of it, uh, I actually think I look out that that's not for like two to three years. For us, the, the real monetization part, we actually are monetizing, uh, kind of on simple stuff around campaigns for advertisers that are, you know, tied to our influencers. Uh, my, this is, Cloud is my third venture, third startup that I founded, and the other two are also in data, and kind of having gone down that, the road of pure data sales, it's, it's painful. Uh, and I think What we find, the use of our data has grown exponentially. In January, we were doing a hundred million transactions a month on our API from about a thousand partners. In, ah, September, we did over ten billion from 5000 partners. So, ah, but the, the desire to pay for it, I don't know, is there, we're, we're still focused on being the standard and getting distribution. I think it's still a little ways away fr…
