“Because I think sometimes, in my career at least, I have found that the street produces a product. And then it goes out there and it tries to jam that product through decision makers. And what it taught me was that reverse engineer the process. Go and spend time with the institution and understand how they really think, understand how their decisions are made, understand what their goals and objectives are, understand what their fears are, how they define risk. What are they really looking for in a way of return? And then you can go away and produce a great product that may not necessarily sail through a decision-making process, because that rarely happens, but I think you have a higher probability of success.”
