Mike Kopko was not on this episode. A recording of them was played into it, so these are their words but not an appearance on the a16z Podcast. It still counts as said, and it is kept out of every score on their page.
Mike Kopko, co-founder and CEO of Pearl Health, explains how scaling patient membership mitigates exogenous financial risk in risk-bearing healthcare models.
“One that we think about in a way to kind of help serve our market is the larger you get in these models, the more you accept yourself from systemic risk, and you can effectively defray that, and you have a fewer exogenous factors that can really be incredibly expensive. So small practice, as an example, can have a big swing that is incredibly punishing, but a very large market like Pearl, where you're having Thousands or tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of members is much more immune to those types of swings.”
